In a recent article in the Patriot News, school officials are concerned because a reutine background check did not pick up a federal drug conviction after he was accused of having sex with students.  Because his drug charges were federal offenses, they did not show up on his state police background checks, district officials said. Even if they had, he could have been hired under state law.

You get what you pay for! School officials are not professional background screeners, hire a professional to do a professional job!!

Citing recent cases in Steelton and suburban Philadelphia, legislators and state officials are looking to expand the background checks of those seeking jobs in schools.

The House Education Committee is expected to take up a bill requiring federal fingerprint checks for all applicants for public or private school jobs. More…
