Checked . . . And Rechecked

Checked . . . And Rechecked

by Nick Fishman

As the practice of conducting background checks on job applicants continues to be common practice, so too does the practice of re-checking current employees at regular intervals.  It is important for employers to remember that once you have obtained authorization from your applicant to conduct a check you reserve the right to go back and check as often as you’d like.  While many take these measures as a requisite for a promotion, there are others who have a need to know about their employees on a regular basis.  Take for instance, an employee that drives a company vehicle.  It would be important to know if they have been convicted of a DUI or have a suspended license since the last time you checked.  Or how about an employee who works with children?  You’d want to make sure that they weren’t convicted of crimes involving children.  The South Florida Sun-Sentinal just published a great article on this very topic, Do You Have a Skeleton in Your Closet?
