A Madison County youth basketball coach accused of choking a player has a sex offender past, and that has some parents outraged.

David
Harvey, an assistant coach for a Richmond Youth Sports League team, is
accused of assault by the parents of one of his players. They say
Harvey choke the child during practice.

It has since been
learned that Harvey is a convicted sex offender - he was convicted in
1995 of second-degree rape in North Carolina. He was registered as a
sex offender upon his release in August 2000.

"Facts don’t cease to exist because they are ignored. " A quote we have often used in presentations given all over the United States.  Failing to do a proper background check can have horrific consequences.  Child predators often put themselves in situations where they are around children, this has been proven time and time again.  This particular story hits close to home because, well, its only a few miles from my home.  We don’t know yet if this particular person had a prior history of being a sexual predator but due to the high recidivism rate of these criminals you can be sure he will look to work with children when he is released from prison. (Hopefully he will be put away for a long, long time.)
